Stay in one of the Karoo’s most notable streetscapes, beautifully restored by owner Sandra Antrobus. The 30 houses and cottages are graded three and four star, and all are beautifully appointed with authentic antique furnishings complementing the 1850s architectural styles. All have kitchens, well-maintained gardens, are pet-friendly, and have safe parking. All have television and ceiling fans, while some also have DStv and air-conditioning. Victoria Manor Hotel

The Vic Manor, as it is fondly known, is one of the Eastern Cape’s first hotels. Built in the 1840s, and beautifully restored, it has an understated and comfortable elegance. There are 16 en suite rooms, all graded three star. All have DStv, heaters and electric blankets, and a number of rooms have air-conditioning. There is a cosy bar, a large lounge, and a dining room that is the stuff of legend. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are served at the hotel.
There is safe parking and as with the Tuishuise, the CBD is within walking distance.
Despite the old-fashioned appearance, there is wi-fi available in the reception area.

Annie’s House

There are 13 en suite rooms in 4-star graded establishment, set along a quiet, treed extension to one of Cradock’s main roads. The house was built in 1905 and retains its old-fashioned grace. There is safe off-street parking, and guests have access to the lovely gardens (including braai facilities) and a private lounge. There is access to wi-fi. Rooms have DStv, tea and coffee facilities, heaters and electric blankets for winter, and ceiling fans for summer. The CBD is a short walk away. Breakfasts are served, and dinners are available on request.

Albert House

This elegant house along a quiet street was built in the late 1800s and features large reception rooms, expansive gardens and comfortable rooms. It comes highly recommended by the AA. There is a variety of accommodation, with seven en suite luxury rooms and three separate backpacker rooms. All rooms have television, most of them with DStv and there is access to wi-fi. Some of the rooms have small fridges and microwaves. Breakfast is generally included in the rates and there is supper on request.

This beautiful Victorian homestead with its large gardens offers 7 en suite rooms, all with their own entrance. The latest addition to Cradock’s upmarket guesthouses is 7 Cities, which is graded 4-star, and which has facilities for disabled guests. It is situated in a quiet, leafy suburb. As the name indicates, there are seven en suite bedrooms, all with DStv, air-conditioning, hair-dryers, bar-fridges as well as tea and coffee facilities. There are fax and wi-fi facilities on request too. One room has been specially adapted for wheelchair use.
There is a Jacuzzi in the garden, as well as a firepit.
There is secure parking and each room has its own entrance. Rates include breakfast.
